Description
TThe second (and last) volume of papers belonging to the musicologist Arthur James Bramwell Hutchings (1906-1989), professor of music at the University of Durham, consisting principally of letters, the majority handwritten, and including the following concert programmes relating to performances given in London, Liverpool and Durham between 1922 and 1971.

5 January 1971, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society/Orchestra Tuesday Subscription Series, with Pierre Fournier (cello), conducted by Charles Groves, including the first performance of Edmund Rubbra, Symphony No. 8 (with historical, analytical and biographical notes, a musical example and a list of the orchestral ensemble).
26 June 1922, Hall of University College, Durham
June Week Concert, conducted by C. M. Armitage and accompanied by Rev. C. S. Wallis, Rev. J.P. Boden, S.G. Caulton, F.P. Hill and H.S. Verrells (with words). This was a two-part concert of vocal and instrumental solos, concluding with an extended work by R. H. Walthew entitled The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
6 May, 23 July and 30 September 1942, Jubilee Theatre
Royal Air Force Musical Society/R.A.F. Orchestra concerts, conducted by A/C. Myers Foggin (with brief analytical notes by Hutchings). Each concert features a number of vocal and instrumental soloists (divided in each case between members of the RAF Society and 'guests').

Concert of Vocal and Instrumental Music given by Durham Colleges' Musick [sic] Society (with historical and descriptive notes and a list of the orchestral ensemble).
Thursday 8 December [1927], Aeolian Hall
London Contemporary Music Centre, including the first English performances of Schoenberg, Suite for seven instruments, op. 29 and Webern, Six Songs, op. 14. Also Britten, Sinfonietta for ten instruments, op. 1 conducted by the composer . The programme includes a list of the instrumental performers, including May Blyth (soprano) and Peter Stadlen (piano).
