Description
A complete collection of programmes and wordbooks for the four morning and three evening performances given as the Bristol Musical Festivals of 1902 and 1905, held as 2 bound volumes.

Programmes for both events include historical and analytical notes (with musical examples), contributed variously by Joseph Bennett, Alfred Kalisch and Percy Pitt.

The volume for 1905 includes a prospectus, with programmes, which records that the performances took place at Colston Hall, Bristol. This document also includes a list of the Patrons and Guarantors, a Historical Introduction, a record of the General Arrangements, a list of the orchestral ensemble (conducted by George Riseley) and a record of the vocal and instrumental soloists engaged (see below).

Volume 1: 8–11 October 1902
Morning concerts
[8 October] 1902: Mendelssohn, Elijah.
9 October 1902: Elgar, Coronation Ode; and Horatio Parker, The Legend of St. Christopher (both works conducted by the composers).
10 October 1902: Berlioz, Grand Requiem; and a miscellaneous selection, including music by Grieg and Elgar, conducted by the composers.
[11 October 1902]: Handel, The Messiah.

Evening concerts
8 October 1902: Mendelssohn, Antigone; miscellaneous selection
9 October 1902: including S. Coleridge-Taylor, Song of Hiawatha (conducted by the composer).
10 October 1902: Grand Miscellaneous Concert.

Vocal: Madame Albani, Miss Agnes Nicholls and Madame Melba; Miss Ada Crossley, Miss Muriel Foster and Madame Kirkby Lunn; Mr John Coates, Mr William Green and Mr Ben Davies; Mr Ffrangcon Davies, Mr Francis Braun, Mr Charles Knowles and Mr Andrew Black.
Instrumental: Miss Adela Verne and Miss Mathilde Verne (piano) and Herr Fritz Kreisler (violin).

The Coram Family Collection contains musical scores by Handel, a fair copy of the Messiah and the conducting score for the Foundling Hospital Anthem, written especially for the Thomas Coram Foundling Hospital. This score is annotated in Handel's own hand.
