Description
Programmes and wordbooks for two concerts given in Cambridge in 1876.

Programme and wordbook for a Grand Concert given on 10 May 1876 at the Guildhall in Cambridge, featuring Mrs Irene Ware, Miss Robertson, Miss Fanny Robertson, Mr W. Shakespeare and Mr Wadmore, conducted by Signor Alberto Randegger. This was a two-part concert of predominantly English and Italian vocal music, with a solo piece for piano in each half, performed by Charles V. Stanford. The programme provides the words with translation where appropriate and contains a number of handwritten sketches.

Programme and wordbook for the May Term Concert given by Christ’s College Musical Society on 24 May 1876 in Christ’s College Hall. This was a two part concert, the first part including selections from Sir William Sterndale Bennett, The Woman of Samaria, and the second part being predominantly vocal, with much music by English composers, including Sterndale Bennett. Also in this part, a piano duet by Schumann. The programme includes only minimal information regarding the performers: Messrs Thompson and Vines (piano), Mr Orpen, Mr Blyth and Master Cross (vocal), and W. C. Dewberry (conductor). A list of the Musical Society committee is provided.
