Description
A complete set of the programmes, with words and notes, for the Cambridge Handel Festival, organized by the Cambridge University Musical Society to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Handel and given at various venues in Cambridge between 9 and 14 June 1935, held as a single bound volume.

The volume begins with an Introduction by E. J. Dent and concludes with lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles. All programmes provide information regarding the vocal and instrumental soloists engaged.

9 June 1935, St. John's College Chapel: Organ Recital and Choral Music, with Susi Hock (organ), conducted by Dr Cyril Rootham.

10 June 1935, Guildhall: Handel in Italy/Chamber Concert, given by the Cambridge University Musical Society Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Lewis (with some handwritten corrections to the notes).

11, 12 and 13 June 1935, outside the Gibb's Building, King's College: The Choice of Hercules and Susanna.

13 June 1935, St. John's College Hall: Chamber Concert/Handel in England.

14 June 1935, King's College Chapel: Choral and Orchestral Music, with the Cambridge University Musical Society chorus and orchestra, conducted by Cyril Rootham.

The Coram Family Collection contains musical scores by Handel, a fair copy of the Messiah and the conducting score for the Foundling Hospital Anthem, written especially for the Thomas Coram Foundling Hospital. This score is annotated in Handel's own hand.
