Description
Programmes for four orchestral concerts given by the Colonne Orchestra of Paris on 12, 14, 16 and 17 October 1896 at the Queen’s Hall, Langham Place.
All the programmes provide a full list of the orchestral ensemble (led by Monsieur Oberdoerffer and conducted by Edouard Colonne) and identify any soloists featured within the orchestral pieces. There are also historical and analytical notes (with musical examples) by Edgar F. Jacques and texts for the vocal pieces (with translation).
12 October: Mademoiselle Marcella Pregi (vocal) and Monsieur Baretti (cello).
14 October: Mark Hambourg (piano). This concert included the first London performance of Massenet, Sous les Tilleuls ‘Scènes Alsaciennes’, and the first English performances of C. Franck, Psyché par les Zéphyrs, and Eduard Schütt, Piano Concerto in F minor.
16 October: Monsieur Vergnet and Mrs Katharine Fisk (vocal), and Marix Loevensohn (cello).
17 October: Frederick Dawson (piano). This programme includes some extensive handwritten annotations concerning the works performed.
