A miscellaneous collection of programmes with wordbooks for eight concerts given at the Queen’s Hall and St. James’s Hall, London between 1893 and 1896, arranged chronologically in a bound volume.

St. James’s Hall
6 May 1893: first violin recital of the season given by Tivadar Nachèz, with Mr Lawrence Kellie (vocal), accompanied by Mr S. Liddle, being a two-part concert of vocal and violin solos, including a number of vocal works by Kellie. The programme highlights certain works which it claims were ‘selected by Her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria, and performed at Windsor Castle and Balmoral’.
9 May 1894: Laistner Choir’s Grand Orchestral Concert, with Miss Marie Fillunger, Mademoiselle Olga de Mohl, Mr John Probert and David Bispham (vocal), conducted by Max Laistner, including the first London performance of Max Bruch, The Lay of the Bell (to a text by Schiller), for soli, chorus, orchestra and organ (with a list of the orchestral ensemble). This two-part performance also included an overture by Weber, a motet by Mozart and Schumann, Piano Concerto (Max Laistner, piano).
22 January 1895: Grand Morning Concert, being a lengthy vocal performance punctuated by instrumental solos and recitations/musical sketches, given by Mrs Hutchinson, Miss Mabel Berrey, Madame Gomez, Mr Joseph O’Mara, Mr David Bispham, Mr Herbert Thorndike, Mr Edwin Wolseley and Mr Lucas Williams (vocal), the Queen Vocal Quartette (Miss Amy Sargent, Miss Stanley Lucas, Miss Isabel Wyatt and Miss Lucie Johnstone), Miss Llewela Davies (piano), Mr Frederic Griffith (flute), Madame Anna Lang (violin), Mr Leo Stern (cello), Mr F.A.W. Docker (organ) and Miss Alice Bateman, Miss Frances Allitsen and Mr Henry Bird (piano) (with handwritten annotations commenting on the performance and indicating the provision of encores).
4 May 1896: Miss Frances Allitsen’s Afternoon Concert, being a performance of songs by Allitsen with piano solos given by Fanny Davies, with Mr Mervy Dene (organ), conducted by Miss Frances Allitsen and Mr F.A. Sewell (with an extensive list of the vocal soloists and some brief handwritten annotations).

21 March 1895: Thursday Subscription Concert no.6, being a two-part vocal and instrumental concert – the first act of which was dedicated to the music of Mendelssohn – given by Mr Otto Peiniger (violin), Mr Hans Adolf Brousil (cello) and Mr Septimus Webbe (piano), with Miss Kate Alston, Miss Minnie Pryce and Mr William Nicholl (vocal), accompanied by Miss Mary Carmichael.
9 December [1895]: Madame Albani’s Grand Morning Concert, with Madame Albani, Miss Clara Butt, Mr Edward Lloyd and Mr Norman Salmond (vocal), Mons. Raoul Pugno (piano), Mons Johannes Wolff (violin) and Mons. Hollman (cello), conducted by Mr H. Lane Wilson (with some handwritten annotations).
25 April 1896: Strand Musical Magazine Concert, being a two-part vocal performance punctuated with instrumental solos and including one choral piece, the music drawn entirely from music published in the Strand Musical Magazine. The programme lists the following soloists: Miss Macintyre, Miss Stanley Lucas, Madame Alice Gomez, Madame Belle Cole, Mr Edward Lloyd, Mr Herbert Grover, Mr David Bispham and Mr Kennerley Rumford (vocal), Miss Ethel Barns (violin), Miss Adelina de Lara (piano) and Mr George Aitken (organ), conducted by Mr G.H. Clutsam (conductor). Also, Mr Stedman’s Childrens Choir (with a number of handwritten annotations indicating the performance of encores).
23 June 1896: Herr Otto Peiniger’s Concert, being a two-part concert combining vocal pieces with music for strings, much of the latter being by Peiniger, including the first performance of his Valse de Salon for string orchestra and harp. The programme lists the following soloists: Miss Stanley Lucas and Mr Fred Ranalow (vocal), Mr Walter Morrow (trumpet) and Mr Stanley Hawley (piano), with Otto Peiniger (solo violin and conductor) (with a list of the orchestral ensemble).
