Description
Analytical programmes for the eight performances given at St. James’s Hall, London, between May and July 1862 as the second season of Mr Charles Hallé’s Beethoven Recitals.
Each programme begins with a statement outlining the intentions of these concerts, namely to perform the complete series of Beethoven’s solo piano sonatas, in chronological order. Unless otherwise stated below, each concert was in two parts, with two sonatas in each part, performed by Charles Hallé.
Each concert also included two vocal pieces (one in each part), accompanied by Mr Harold Thomas. The names of the vocal soloist are listed below.
All programmes include detailed historical and analytical notes, with musical examples, and the texts for the vocal pieces.

30 May, Miss Palmer.
6 June, Mademoiselle Florence Lancia.
13 June, Madame Honnoré and Mr Santley.
20 June, Monsieur Jourdan. The second act of this recital included the Andante in F Major and the Diabelli Variations, plus Grand Sonata Op. 53.
28 June, Madame Lemmens Sherrington
4 July, Madame Oscar Comettant
11 July, Mademoiselle Liebhart (vocal). This recital was in a single act, with the three last piano sonatas separated by songs.
