Description
The prospectus, with preliminary programmes, for the four morning and four evening performances given at St. Andrew's Hall, Norwich between 3 and 6 October 1893 as the 24th Norfolk and Norwich Triennial Musical Festival, held as part of a bound volume.
This document includes a list of the patrons and committee members for the Festival and records the involvement of the following performers:
Madame Albani, Mrs Helen Trust, Miss Anna Williams, Madame Belle Cole, Marian McKenzie, Mr Edward Lloyd, Mr Ben Davies, Mr George Henschel, Mr Bantock Pierpoint, Mr J.H. Brockbank and Mr Norman Salmond (vocal), M. Paderewski (piano) and Senor Sarasate (violin), with Dr Bunnett (organ), Dr Hill (choir master), Mr G.H. Betjemann (leader) and Mr Alberto Randegger (conductor).
The morning performances were generally choral in nature and culminated in a performance of Handel, The Messiah.
The concerts included the first performance of the following works, all of which were conducted/played by their composers: Edward German, Symphony in A minor, No.2 (composed expressly for the Festival); Paderewski, New Polish Fantaisie for Pianoforte and Orchestra; J.F. Barnett, The Wishing Bell (cantata); and F.H. Cowen, The Water Lily (cantata).
