Description
A bound volume containing programmes and wordbooks for oratorio concerts/Concerts of Ancient and Modern Music, given at the Royal Theatres of Covent Garden and Drury Lane between 1824 and 1830. Also, programmes and wordbooks for Mr [William] Hawes Concert (given at the Argyll Rooms in 1824) and for Royal Academy of Music/Royal Academic Concerts given at the Antient Concert Rooms, Hanover Square between 1825 and 1827.
All programmes provide detailed information regarding the vocal soloists engaged.
30 January, 31 March and 7 and 9 April 1824: programmes with words for the Oratorio Concerts nos. 1, 9, 11 and 12 given under the direction of Mr Bochsa at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (nos. 1, 9 and 11) and Covent Garden (no. 12), led by Mr Mori and conducted by Sir George Smart.
30 January: Handel, Messiah; the first English performance of Frederic Schneider, Day of Judgement; a Grand Miscellaneous Act.
31 March: Grand Selection of Ancient and Modern Music.

30 January, 22 and 29 February and 5, 12, 19, 21 and 26 March 1828: programmes with words for eight Concerts of Ancient and Modern Music, given at Theatre Royal, Covent Garden (nos. 2, 3, and 7) and Drury Lane (nos. 1, 4-6 and 8). Certain of these programmes carry handwritten annotations, many of which concern the performance of encores.

A number of these programmes carry handwritten annotations, which record the performance of encores and offer various other comments.

There are also extensive annotations

The Coram Family Collection contains musical scores by Handel, a fair copy of the Messiah and the conducting score for the Foundling Hospital Anthem, written especially for the Thomas Coram Foundling Hospital. This score is annotated in Handel's own hand.
