Description
Wordbook for the Royal Entertainment held during a banquet at the Guildhall of the City of London on London Mayor’s Day, 9 November 1837.
This was a Selection of Vocal Music, performed by Miss Birch and Miss M. B. Hawes, Mr Moxley, Mr Dando, Mr Horncastle, Mr Hawes, Mr Broadhurst, Mr E. Seguin, Mr A. Novello, Mr Chapman and Mr H. Phillips, with chorus, under the direction of Sir George Smart.
The document claims that ‘various pieces will be performed by the Instrumental Band’ and carries a full list of the members of the band, led by Mr Willman but there is no indication of what these pieces were.
The title page of this document reads: ‘To her most gracious Majesty Queen Victoria, this copy of the Selection of Vocal Music performed at the Banquet given by the Corporation of London … is presented with their dutiful homage’.
There is a handwritten annotation on the inside cover which reads: ‘This, being one of two Facsimile Copies, is presented to His Royal Highness, the Duke of Sussex, with the profound Respects of The President’.
This programme was formely held at British Library 813.h.19.
